Sounding off

So I’ve been playing around with one of items I gifted to myself for my birthday last month: Razer BlackShark Pro.

I’ve been wanting a wireless headset for a while, and had my heart set on a Kraken for the longest, but I was not in love with their current wireless design. Hell, if there were a wireless version of my beloved Carcharias, I woulda pounce on those in a heartbeat! But there’s not, so I went BlackShark. It’s great for gaming and work, but I’ll be first to admit that I’m not sold on using it for recording anything seriously. (But then again maybe I’m not using the correct settings?)

I mean, it sounds fine I’m told, but sounds “off” to me. Example: Here’s a sample I did before I enabled noise cancellation [link] and after [link]. Both sound completely different to me, yet both are “off.”

Bleh.

I’m thinking I may need to invest in a proper recording mic again if I’m going to start doing any kind of sound work. (My old handheld died ages ago.) I was approached to do some last year but wasn’t in the right headspace. I had stopped attending my practices once COVID hit, and I’m so out of tune and out of practice it’s frankly pretty fucking embarrassing. My worsening asthma and allergies are not helping any either.

Getting old sucks. ;p

Work is hella busy but good. My insurance is finally covering my therapy sessions so I’m over the moon with that. I’m waiting for the last of the paperwork I need to submit the last 9 months’ superbills to Cigna for reimbursement. I’m set to pay off my house early by end of next year so I’m super excited about that as well. Which is probably a good thing because my poor car has been paid off for a while but it’s clear that I’m gonna have to replace it due to more and more electrical problems. Working from home has really helped me save wear and tear, and has helped me put off replacing it much longer than I had hoped, so that was a blessing I dearly needed.

I have my second treatment of Botox coming up next month, and as much as the injections FUCKING HURT, I have to admit it’s been worth it. My migraines have so far been fewer, and less severe. I haven’t had to take off any sick days since starting the treatment (knock on wood!), and plan to keep getting it with the hopes that things will only improve more. That coupled with more therapy sessions is really helping.

My anxiety is still through the roof, but at least the depression is held somewhat at bay. Where the meds fail, meditation helps … to an extent.

There’s so much I’ve wanted to write/bitch about, but honestly it’s all senseless drama and drivel that doesn’t really matter in the long run. I am looking forward to better weather (hopefully) in the coming months and several concerts that I plan to hit up this summer. I’m thinking maybe another trip out west to Arizona to visit some friends I’ve made over the last year or so. I’d love to go see my friends in the EU, but flights are simply too expensive right now. Reggie and I were planning a trip to New Orleans before he passed away, and I still kind of want to go. Just not so sure I need to go there by myself. /shrug

I’m planning a follow-up Plex post soon. I’m half tempted to get a proper NAS to replace my nVidia ShieldTV, but may use my laptop once I decide to retire it instead. The Shield is a good device but meh, I need more and to be completely honest, a dedicated ripping/encoding machine would be SUPER sweet. My gaming rig can do it, but my free time is more and more limited lately and that’s time I could be playing something. ;)

Anyways, hope things are well wherever you are. See y’all later …
